Indiana Medicaid Providers Can Use FADS Secure Portal during Program Integrity Audits; FADS Training Now Available

Indiana Medicaid providers who are identified for Program Integrity Audits can respond to audit letters using the Indiana FADS (fraud and abuse detection system) Secure Portal. And a new online training module from the Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP), Indiana FADS Secure Portal Tutorial, will give providers, staff members, or other representatives the information they need to use the system.

Program Integrity Audits for Indiana Medicaid, along with the Indiana FADS Secure Portal, are operated by Truven Health Analytics, Indiana’s Medicaid Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC), who also has subcontracted with Health Management Systems (HMS) to deliver Indiana’s RAC program.

Medicaid RACs review claims for which payment has been made to ensure compliance with IHCP guidelines, identify underpayments and overpayments, and recoup overpayments.

While providers, staff members, or other representatives can view the Indiana FADS Secure Portal Tutorial at any time, they can’t actually register for an account until the provider receives an audit letter that includes a provider portal key. In addition to that information, providers, staff members, or other representatives need the provider’s Medicaid ID number, a valid email address, and access to the provider’s IHCP Provider Healthcare Portal account to create a FADS account (NOTE: the Indiana FADS Secure Portal is different than the IHCP Provider Healthcare Portal). Multiple users may create FADS accounts on behalf of each provider.

Once an account is created, users will then subscribe to a provider’s audit case separately using the provider case key, also found in the audit letter. If the provider has multiple open audit cases, then users will need to subscribe to each case. Multiple users can subscribe to a single case using their separate accounts.

With a FADS account, users can see info related to the Program Integrity Audit, submit documentation, and communicate with case disposition specialists.

For more information, visit the Indiana Program Integrity webpage, or watch the Indiana FADS Secure Portal Tutorial. The following Program Integrity tutorials also are available for review: Program Integrity Audit Process Overview and Program Integrity Self-Disclosure Protocol.
