Indiana Medicaid recently announced the extension of several reimbursement reductions that were implemented in 2010 and 2011 as emergency cost saving measures.
Reimbursement for podiatrists, chiropractors, and ambulance transportation providerswas reduced by 5 percent and reimbursement for non-ambulance transportation providers was reduced by 10 percent beginning January 1, 2011, and those reductions will continue through dates of service December 31, 2013.
Reimbursement for optometrists and opticians, nonhospital-based laboratory providers, durable medical equipment and prosthetics, nonhospital-based freestanding dialysis clinics, speech/hearing therapists and audiologists, and medical supplies was reduced by 10 percent beginning July 1, 2011, and will continue through dates of service December 31, 2013, though they were originally set to expire on June 30, 2013.
Reimbursement for all of these services will return to its pre-reduction levels for dates of service on or after January 1, 2014.
Additionally, the following reductions are extended as indicated:
- Home Health Services: a 5 percent reimbursement reduction was implemented for services with “from” dates of service April 1, 2010, and will be extended through December 31, 2013. Effective for “from” dates of service of January 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015, reimbursement will be reduced by 3 percent.
- Inpatient and Outpatient Hospital Facility: a 5 percent reimbursement reduction was implemented for services with “from” dates of service January 1, 2010, and will be extended through December 31, 2013. Effective for “from” dates of service of January 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015, reimbursement will be reduced by 3 percent. (Does not include disproportionate share hospitals payments or hospital upper payment limit payments.)
- Nonstate-Owned ICF/IID and CRF/DD: a 3 percent reimbursement reduction was implemented for services with “from” dates of service April 1, 2010, and will be extended through December 31, 2013. Effective for “from” dates of service on or after January 1, 2014, reimbursement will be reduced by 1 percent.
- Dental Services: a 5 percent reimbursement reduction was implemented for services with “from” dates of service April 1, 2010, and will be extended through December 31, 2013. Reimbursement will return to its pre-reduction levels for dates of service on or after January 1, 2014.
