On April 17, 2012, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius issued a press release announcing a proposed rule that would delay the compliance date for ICD-10 from October 1, 2013, to October 1, 2014. The comment period is now closed. Public comments are being reviewed and analyzed, and the Department will issue a final rule as expeditiously as possible, expected in the fall of 2012.
As the industry waits, we decided to take a look back to see how we got to this point with ICD-10.
